Adult Learning 2019

Welcome to the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development’s (CALPD) new blog! As a busy centre offering part-time courses to adult learners, we want to use this space to give you an better insight into our work. Over the coming weeks and months we would like you to get to know members of our staff who have a particular interest in adult learning – administrators, coordinators and academics.

You will learn about our course design & development work, operational planning and the many student supports available that ensure that our learners are fully supported in their learning journey!

2019 is particularly an exciting year for CALPD as we celebrate our 50 year anniversary. Adult Learning at NUI Galway began in 1969 as “Extra-Mural” Diplomas in Social Action & Industrial Relations and non-credit ‘Courses of Cultural Interest” in Science, Education and Humanities (see first press release below). It also marks the establishment of the International Summer School and Access Programme – Adult Learning has an inspiring story to tell!

We look forward to sharing with you highlights of the development of Adult Learning over the past 50 years and have organised a number of events during 2019 to mark this milestone in our history.

So keep reading and keep watching as we share these details over the coming months!
